<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This tutorial for a needle felted doll base I happily share with you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It took me quite a while to develop an easy way to create a sturdy base for my felt dolls </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
without using a wooden stand or a wired base.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This works great and creates a perfect base doll to 'dress up' anyway you would like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She can easily become a goddess, Mother Earth, a flower child or a faerie</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to decorate your home, season table or altar. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Let's get started - Materials;<img border="0" height="30" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP7YQl7x_JkQ1ORBPZPoEC4U1hfBk-3ECQpdQbhZ5xclpApkdYEy-T6UKHELvzKG41hCspd2q4pzaxEVlMAqY5Hi-80PD6p4rBoyD-5afqqMd3GxuTT2y3GMYLbahlMhOA6gYiZva6g/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
- natural carded wool batt (natural coarse filling wool)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
- felting needles (fine and medium) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
- skin toned (merino) roving</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
- pipe cleaners</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
- felt ball for the head (can easily be pricked out of the filling wool)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
or a ready made felt ball</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
- a (foam) pillow to work on </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and optional: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="40" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-wPQwupMTa4Hik5ILF1q9m2W5z6wivdhB3lT2nT1maSWbGlxG3stq6hG5Un-BwW6IoVBGnDZS-fGBtZ-ZA2bN6TzUtV-BMggCykXycxDEXWXlmDagZg-EhzmiGybCL6c23BEyitrF5A/s1600/kevertje-geel-cropped.jpg" />- a clover felting tool with 5 needles</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-I4o-Xk6RPT6FwQhVTo4twV5h-P-Yp7hEkFEjZpwI6aO78qnfetCkIo0W0NdFQObPbOWHT4m0wVNpQ_aVfQ8CHmwPEhqcgtHhcVlDyy0FN5tQUkh0zdPmhNVX1oCBlUuuic6OSUg7mw/s640/Collages9.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Take a strip of filling wool. Put it in front of you horizontally </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and fold over one edge (approx. 2 cm) over the entire length.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now turn the strip 90 degrees and roll up firmly into a cone.<img border="0" height="40" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-wPQwupMTa4Hik5ILF1q9m2W5z6wivdhB3lT2nT1maSWbGlxG3stq6hG5Un-BwW6IoVBGnDZS-fGBtZ-ZA2bN6TzUtV-BMggCykXycxDEXWXlmDagZg-EhzmiGybCL6c23BEyitrF5A/s1600/kevertje-geel-cropped.jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The size of the cone is up to you </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but for a medium doll I normally use the length of my hand as the height of the strip.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When the cone is thick enough simply pull of the remaining wool and continue with step 3.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. The thicker side of the cone where you can clearly see the swirl </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(the rolled up folded edge) is the bottom side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. Secure the roll by pricking the loose ends into the cone with your felting needle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Work all along the cone with your felting needle but leave the upper side open.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. Firmly work the bottom side with your felting needle or Clover tool</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and prick it extra in the center.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The doll will stand better if the bottom is slightly concave.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5. Roll the cone between your hands to shape it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span id="goog_412022240"></span><span id="goog_412022241"></span><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDn8Uv83aTathLX6gRmiKa3YoTTbxuqkJkQHIJek-XqiRv9P1SbgI5jV8658FNM17udRfwgvhTvCPhHMYl511cJV_-U7J2I_NQngtjYLe21Y0hdrB30-vkioBJy6cszNGBiyMqpx-V3g/s640/2015-11-034.jpg" width="640" />
<br />
<br />
<br />
1. Measure the pipe cleaner by bending it over the top of the cone.<br />
It should almost touch the surface on both sides.<br />
If your pipe cleaner isn't long enough<br />
you can twist the ends of two pipe cleaners into each other.<br />
Make sure the knot is placed underneath the neck (see step 5)<br />
<br />
2. Measure the head by holding it above the cone.<br />
Use a felt ball or prick one yourself<br />
by rolling up a piece of filling wool tightly into a small cone<br />
and prick it until it has a ball shape.<br />
Meanwhile roll it between your hands to form it.<br />
Does it looks to big compared to the body, prick it extra with your felting needle.<br />
Does it feels to small add some extra filling wool.<br />
<br />
3. Pull of a tuft a skin toned wool roving<img border="0" height="30" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP7YQl7x_JkQ1ORBPZPoEC4U1hfBk-3ECQpdQbhZ5xclpApkdYEy-T6UKHELvzKG41hCspd2q4pzaxEVlMAqY5Hi-80PD6p4rBoyD-5afqqMd3GxuTT2y3GMYLbahlMhOA6gYiZva6g/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" /><br />
(long enough to generously cover the felt ball)<br />
and divide it into two thin layers.<br />
Place them cross wise on the table with the felt ball in the center.<br />
<br />
4. Fold the ends of the wool carefully around the ball<br />
and secure them by binding them firmly with a slim tuft of wool.<br />
Secure it by pricking the ends with the felting needle.<br />
If you want your doll to have a distinct neck add another tuft of wool.<br />
<br />
Another option is to pull off one tuft of skintoned wool from the roving<br />
(about 5 tot six times the size of the felt ball)<br />
and making a knot in the center of it using a small tuft of skin toned wool.<br />
The knot is placed on top of the head and secured with a fine felting needle.<br />
Than the wool is draped around the head and finished according to step 4.<br />
<br />
You can leave the head as it is<br />
or add an eye line or eyes using a fine felting needle.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-wPQwupMTa4Hik5ILF1q9m2W5z6wivdhB3lT2nT1maSWbGlxG3stq6hG5Un-BwW6IoVBGnDZS-fGBtZ-ZA2bN6TzUtV-BMggCykXycxDEXWXlmDagZg-EhzmiGybCL6c23BEyitrF5A/s1600/kevertje-geel-cropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="40" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-wPQwupMTa4Hik5ILF1q9m2W5z6wivdhB3lT2nT1maSWbGlxG3stq6hG5Un-BwW6IoVBGnDZS-fGBtZ-ZA2bN6TzUtV-BMggCykXycxDEXWXlmDagZg-EhzmiGybCL6c23BEyitrF5A/s1600/kevertje-geel-cropped.jpg" /></a>5. Divide the remaining wool under the neck in two<br />
and place the pipecleaner under the neck.<br />
<br />
6. Place the head with the pipe cleaner underneath the neck on the top of the cone.<br />
Press the neck gently into the cone and secure it immediately by pricking along<br />
the neckline with the felting needle.<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibiNtGyvRK_QgwVgxwF_lKl7CyltnpM42IXysMto9eKSxZEvPWQyg3zM2XTyyfVSnlV3cP3jrW6b_JLrkc8ixp91kf1ahJeHQe68mwV4pa64_Cup651SVmlZac6UcjcgG2n8tSfZ9tMA/s640/2015-11-033.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Add some extra filling wool on both sides to secure the neck </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and prick it into the shoulders and neckline. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Repeat until the head is secured and small shoulders are created.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally secure one stroke of filling wool batt onto the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Drape it around the arm and secure it with the felting needle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Repeat this on the other side of the doll.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP7YQl7x_JkQ1ORBPZPoEC4U1hfBk-3ECQpdQbhZ5xclpApkdYEy-T6UKHELvzKG41hCspd2q4pzaxEVlMAqY5Hi-80PD6p4rBoyD-5afqqMd3GxuTT2y3GMYLbahlMhOA6gYiZva6g/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="30" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP7YQl7x_JkQ1ORBPZPoEC4U1hfBk-3ECQpdQbhZ5xclpApkdYEy-T6UKHELvzKG41hCspd2q4pzaxEVlMAqY5Hi-80PD6p4rBoyD-5afqqMd3GxuTT2y3GMYLbahlMhOA6gYiZva6g/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. Make sure there is less wool used for the underarm and more for the upperarm.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also create armpits by pricking with your felting needle under the arms.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On the back you can create shoulder-blades this way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. When you are making a woman/goddess you can add breasts now </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
by pricking small tufts of wool onto the front. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And create a distinct waistline by pricking all around her body in one line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5. Finish the neckline and cleavage by draping a thin 'shawl' of wool around her neck</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and pricking the ends into her cleavage with a fine felting needle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheVPN_GmbChi5UOJZ7YqbG2Ymnka_siXW46CzV6upMcOVl_NB7NN5yaKewgnPbxLdccBhLFt-yHbo-Eqooopedo_Rn1FAmWstSyOqDM2uhwPQ7aXN4SPlRR0-6peTRZFsJ9IOjzTXWwA/s640/2015-11-032.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. As you can see now the arms already have 'shrunken' a bit due to adding the head.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Measure them again<br />
and make sure the folded hands will touch the lower side of the thighs.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So measure them and add approximately 1 cm (0,4 inches)<br />
this way you can bend the pipecleaner to create hands<br />
without ending up with to short arms.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. + 3. Pull off a thin tuft of skin toned roving<br />
and tightly drape it around the pipe cleaner until you almost reach the end.<br />
Make sure there is still wool left to drape with.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. + 5. Now fold back the end (approximately 1 cm / 0,4 inches) <img border="0" height="30" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP7YQl7x_JkQ1ORBPZPoEC4U1hfBk-3ECQpdQbhZ5xclpApkdYEy-T6UKHELvzKG41hCspd2q4pzaxEVlMAqY5Hi-80PD6p4rBoyD-5afqqMd3GxuTT2y3GMYLbahlMhOA6gYiZva6g/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and drape it tightly with the remaining wool. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
6. Secure immediately with a fine felting needle.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And finish off the wrists with a fine tuft of skin toned roving.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPYE-QlekQcyFlqXFQUfSLaXwHAswUT58kO4in7whcUdas1xULn00vt_mu6Cb6TMTAiBeL4Ax4gEEiozkR84yt5KG69bGPs6IkPpqAnQ_G6H4qTGByd9jBx1RvTs5Oy3dZ6ziJtvh8wQ/s640/IMG_6200.jpg" /></div>
<div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And.... there she is.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now the real fun part starts, choosing ornaments,<br />
creating hair out of wool locks, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
clothes out of scraps of silk, scrim and wool batts etc.<br />
All which you can apply simply by pricking them into the white base<br />
with a fine felting needle....enjoy!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
or if there are any uncertainties</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivYAOnXhkNIv6SRgav5B2xrnyFXf4w6bpFiAby0B3Cxv1Rq8vIIg7n-i4mPDUwq6YFk_3Eq0hQumr0-2uD2gjzHg3W2__sPU0DP1kbF28xuosr6hQQak_5RAbqFoFbeDOlEuFQRiQuEw/s1600/2015-03-311.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I made this necklace made of my favorite crystal point </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and a hand felted organic shape.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It is a totem which honors my new passion...wet felting. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The ancient felting technique of rubbing wool </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
with warm water and soap to create felt is just magical...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
... it balances me, it grounds me </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and the smell of wool on my hands works like aromatherapy...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
it makes me feel connected again with nature...but above all with myself ...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Oo11tXKQWyOiL7vWdDER8Tgx-WLltx8VqmQBcqpmr2-SVKonQM9j_P5Dv9cH1qwNcw5KQ3ym_deoGfcqeqmBjrMk_OOYp8gs_IsHLlI_qii0jFrBQwjVtBz9RWvfdbVPrPlUn6xRbw/s1600/JPEG.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
... for my little ones I made a faerie ribbon scarf</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
by braiding beautiful ribbons and art yarn into a long colourful strand with tassels.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lately I discovered how comforting it is to recycle fabrics </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
like clothes of loved ones into ribbons.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They make very special totems and heartwarming decorations...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Simply fill the bottom or top lit of a camembert cheese box</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
with a firm layer of wool (fleece). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can create two bases out of one camembert box.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Prick with a felting needle to make a firm batt of it </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and attach it to the lit with some hot glue.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then use the felting needle to attach wool curls, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
mohair for the centre and a small Faerie egg.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Decorate the nest with found feathers, branches and angelina fiber,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For wall hanging prick a hole into the backside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have used wool balls for their heads instead of wooden beads. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD1wPvxNmmUJ2av8HdKKlIUST6Cz_IRpMjrO2qbGt9wnEicDcZwEWaeweZh5XBYIGWaBNd1WeDVhzpAvm3jbLeI62BaJbq9GIi-qQ7c4R2mCAgom3DOa9ysQb7RH7_NJa9CbBj_s28Wg/s640/IMG_4005.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Recently I discovered a delicious organic alcohol free apple cider and it even has a champagne cork! So finally I could make a lovely fairy chair like the ones I had seen on Pinterest. After that I became inspired and designed a matching patio table with a flower parasol.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwA8WrZUjKM-HcGOwftGJZXRuLXbAWwVjKiY8iFNfi7VF0gh4lsdRC9L7414P6FSigNKtQ9C7Yc2SJblPFp0YWQhgfhZEuHxFs3Cinagx6wg5WV-fLGd9uNqvADLkoxrS-vAcaqKg1VA/s640/2013-06-21.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is my simplified version of the chair, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
all you need is a wire cage from a champagne or cider bottle and a wire cutter;</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 - Cut the loop from the lower wire of the cage.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 - Remove the wire completely from the cage leaving it in one piece.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3 - Shape a chair back by bending the wire.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4 - Twist the chair back onto the legs and trim excessive wire.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5 - Bow the end of the legs slightly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Optional; you can remove the chair seat before you attach the chair back and replace it later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjRUBmq0diKXCPDcu8klFYByLwXpnjFpNyyDcn2oKVaIhQuPANcWPRLB-aumH9jyui8KhNfKbJ3FWasYsuqgFhkTcN-i31ImYSG1W5f0fkYUbSO_IJUeICRLgTXHYnPJsFccVttMsFiw/s640/2013-06-211.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yesterday I suddenly had inspiration to create a new kind of fairy house that could be used as a flower pot too. I'm very pleased with the result especially since I can finally recycle our milk cartons into fairy houses.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3drN8iKY0rLkdO9_iM7JGjXEa_n5rhUJpjb_2Q13aqbg5cBJ-4LlRP1K7nsccx8Tq86f_m12jXq2b9oXXs2CeFzl8E0beLRHQy-B2znQks5H8dOtRZBFl_NYLv_iWgn8EHFTWhdcbbw/s1600/2013-06-13.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP7YQl7x_JkQ1ORBPZPoEC4U1hfBk-3ECQpdQbhZ5xclpApkdYEy-T6UKHELvzKG41hCspd2q4pzaxEVlMAqY5Hi-80PD6p4rBoyD-5afqqMd3GxuTT2y3GMYLbahlMhOA6gYiZva6g/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="30" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP7YQl7x_JkQ1ORBPZPoEC4U1hfBk-3ECQpdQbhZ5xclpApkdYEy-T6UKHELvzKG41hCspd2q4pzaxEVlMAqY5Hi-80PD6p4rBoyD-5afqqMd3GxuTT2y3GMYLbahlMhOA6gYiZva6g/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" /></a></div>
Like always this is very easy to create!<br />
<br /></div>
1 - You need a used, well rinsed milk carton (the ones in Holland have a spout that can be used to water the plants).<br />
2 - Prick a hole in the side of the carton with scissors and cut out 2 square windows. You can use the flaps to create shutters, but this time I just removed them.<br />
3 - Fill the bottom with some soil and fill the carton with succulents till just above the square windows.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-wPQwupMTa4Hik5ILF1q9m2W5z6wivdhB3lT2nT1maSWbGlxG3stq6hG5Un-BwW6IoVBGnDZS-fGBtZ-ZA2bN6TzUtV-BMggCykXycxDEXWXlmDagZg-EhzmiGybCL6c23BEyitrF5A/s1600/kevertje-geel-cropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="40" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-wPQwupMTa4Hik5ILF1q9m2W5z6wivdhB3lT2nT1maSWbGlxG3stq6hG5Un-BwW6IoVBGnDZS-fGBtZ-ZA2bN6TzUtV-BMggCykXycxDEXWXlmDagZg-EhzmiGybCL6c23BEyitrF5A/s1600/kevertje-geel-cropped.jpg" /></a>Optional; cut the support bar between the windows to easily fill the carton with plants. Later you can restore it when you cover the carton with barch.<br />
4 - Cover the entire sides of the carton with barch and moss and create a barch roof using a hot glue gun. And finally decorate the house with pressed flowers, moss, snail shells and feathers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1gMcxfDD4-bmQoNNTzfRlnuOSJpwFIISgqsuObqpxHT-rA7FpsYF8HlmvFJEub5sxQ-gux9cjbkyUhBccDsto97AnTweHFrI1VvS5dwnGs3Kw_dRg1fvgq8tHo88NAK8YAE__yVZfLg/s1600/2013-06-141.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhunzWEv30XM5buSa68neA5R0egZbRhu26y8fIAMtuFIz3gKFQs0YG7e5aJ2g1B_-Q4EzFCiSrnQqxX3TrA8iOSDz3-GVzd2rmtqyA7osgojWaGE2N24sEeIpFokSCdsQuzhTUDU78-oQ/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="30" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhunzWEv30XM5buSa68neA5R0egZbRhu26y8fIAMtuFIz3gKFQs0YG7e5aJ2g1B_-Q4EzFCiSrnQqxX3TrA8iOSDz3-GVzd2rmtqyA7osgojWaGE2N24sEeIpFokSCdsQuzhTUDU78-oQ/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" /></a></div>
These homes will attract the flower fairies of the plants that are growing inside.<br />
Good luck and I wish you a magical weekend!<br />

<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihbR4xzaCfXeHxJ7Pwi3vdyQ9hzJH-QZXYc_1m6W1Vm_-z1cA-Jw9rAhfpBfA4sqyeunH9BQzjb_V5Jqmgs-OYBPrY7c9z2Aqek0LTtk3itN_WRlPnPIOMM_gMMOHIeBzh4H5Wf8HoNA/s640/IMG_9030.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To me succulents are the ideal plants for creating fairy scenes. To use them in tiny fairy gardens you simply cut a few twigs and put them in water and in the sun. After a few days they will often root and you can plant them in a new fairy garden.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2TsBKnJyXgXZUDXQydrvAQLMBxgPAik0LOBcoaU1BES7M0ko03NcYnnrDuxFNicHIGTYWcF15NZuhcINVeT3BTj0nnyzxjXTBxv5_sUMB3bfSkQ4DXmqfKPNv_Y_XMPD9Ih6vF8HvTg/s640/Collages92.jpg" height="640" style="text-align: center;" width="640" /><br />
<br />
Last year on Pinterest I saw lovely terracotta flower pot fairy gardens. For these gardens I use broken terracotta flower pots, succulents and moss. Soaked soil can be used as modelling paste but afterwards the succulents don't need alot of water.<br />
1 - Create a layer of stones on the bottom for drainage and fill 1/3 of the pot with soaked soil.<br />
2 - Place a large potsherd as a wall in the middle of the pot and fill the space with soaked soil.<br />
3 - Place small potsherds as the steps of the stairs in a half circle around the main potsherd.<br />
4 - Fill the top of the flower pot with succulent plants and cover the dark soil with moss.<br />
5 - Decorate the garden with tiny rooted succulents cuttings and all kinds of natural treasures.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For this scene I simply used moss and a few rooted succulent cuttings to create a lovely moss terrace. I think it is important to use moss from your own garden and not to disturb or destroy the true fairy scenes in nature. It is easy to grow your own moss in a moist corner in your garden. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 - Collect moss and rooted succulent cuttings. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Put a layer of gravel in a bowl and cover it with soaked soil.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 - Make an arrangement of the succulents, leaving room for the terrace.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3 - Cover the soil with moss and add natural decorations.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5 - Garden furniture made of birch slices and willow branches makes a lovely fairy terrace!</div>
<br />

My favorite project so far are the fairy 'trees' in my front yard. I made them of tree root stumps with a succulent hat.<br />
1 - Collect different (hanging) succulent plants and create a nest out of chicken wire. Place it on top of the tree stump and secure it. Fill the bottom of the nest with old newspapers and fill the nest with soaked soil.<br />
2 - Cut holes in the wire and stick the plants into the nest.<br />
3 - Finally cover all the visible wire and soil with moss and Spanish moss.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These fairy gardens are easy to create and to maintain and always attract the attention of people and fairies passing by!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Today I'm still having so much fun with my fairy bird houses made of egg cartons!</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a height="30" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqRtj-rF1EG2kZWgrKw4aJ7Qp1JWrjq_busk9KpIhJ20HoVUdZmrsO4UPm-bI1jbJXcey-yi4KmlBwaw9gTSYedaYrnuyHqztya_B0GZ4axDDqoRh537JJXgSuslkLAABz1VYPFtPfPA/s1600/kevertjegeel-cropped2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They are ready in no time,so I can easily prepare some during nap time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And while my toddler plays with all the lovely materials I decorate them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbPZCVrpezsY6Rggme-QDm3n0X7X8SFuE5vxhS0O_m0ab56V7d0uLvRmgQJs3KzktDABPrZR8KbWGPYnTHv2Dy-YQ8O21ft50D5crXD6LlDupJtfcUj9pQSu-ki9DO6yC9BsjYNnPKzA/s640/IMG_3687.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For this one I used my beloved woodpecker feather that I found in our garden.<br />
Together with some willow twigs, dried moss and alder clots it makes a lovely scene I think.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiQqBVHLXe59jCoxgRtH7QReA-Fxg9lyPIliE7-NgzDPbibpkIUc1K2icpKeyBzn8e-0c1MFnBofVGWwJDm7fbu7vVNUBRvY_Ibp96oBuf3POjiMZRpBsKDRlcdq2Ac93C_v4RtmLpOA/s640/IMG_3704-001.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course these houses can be used by all kinds of tiny creatures. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wonder who will live here...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4ZzkUBgnxhAa7Q8rOCB6dgMfW8zPBb8oOClq-_sYGN6oG08UMFGtbqFTlOW6bddpH2On6OPz4W95vPBaruAZKf1A22iPQD8ksb_I78McsKiGrTOU1ZsP0kREtDtkzYpsUqY4OHbdgIw/s640/IMG_3643.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My new idea of creating these fairy (bird-)houses made me so very happy this week! For a while I had been thinking about a way to recycle our empty egg cartons and then I came up with these bird-houses, that look lovely in all kinds of decorations like table pieces, trays with herbs and flower arrangements. They also make lovely ornaments.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA4jZOfyz8XXKfDwuxeZFlZI5-OMZiiCv7bENHk4zqWZPiZpjNpG_GFcz-0zOaGzXdGkMTess6L2hpT2_VdzEoD5i-qRp0jED7lsnbf0RsShqyXMTGyWfNhOAhPASlFMvjhhIXF3nv6A/s640/2013-05-29.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is how you make them:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 - Collect some egg cartons. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used a 6 piece egg carton and made 2 houses out of it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2+3 - Cut the center cones from the egg carton, using scissors.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4 - Now cut the remaining cups from the egg carton. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The same amount as the cones, 2 in this case.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
5 - Glue the cones and the cups together.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
6 - The 2 bases are now finished!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqBT5Otab-ATy3S23k0D9pl_mF3jxIBYp6JgG6dfLydAVSi22GrZ9Vu9_W_ENLJ7IUWQIYZqjHqsa03OWVNXCgX5wG4-0lZcYosK_Ouf4nQsEMTIbeW6zyZUZpmvFS4_N4ftBrneAMiw/s640/2013-05-292.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Now my favorite part starts... the decoration! I glued the houses on a stick first so I could paint them easily. I used water paint to paint the houses and moss and a small branch to finish them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijMf-31-OGMNDFGu1SGaOqmI3SqtpDPltBcKjyFdLtDHYnNxs39GHi6E34REHbKBmUR9eXADn2-pXrmdYsaY0hJGb1dDylsBVw0tDmyzRHBiyTAxsC3yRzNzQU5HqHdXMsfLmxqS0uEQ/s640/Collages89.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
When you work with children you can prepare the houses in advance. Place the houses on sticks in a bowl surrounded by materials like water paint, glue, moss, small branches and snail shells. Then let each child paint and decorate their very own fairy bird-house.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilkGU36KGBPRWWcVeDUYv3bnUEDyP85JRLzjXQxV0_PkGmlfF63GXFqkLUaJ5iuB6KY94DExqu26MKqUpN0saKoBTbFAwPD005fa2jez-oVHc5_gb9E0gxtyvth8ZRHpz2gOxTj8x6XQ/s640/2013-05-294.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<br />
The houses can be placed outdoors on a roofed terrace for example but they are not waterproof. Thanks to their size they look lovely anywhere in or around the house too and they also make lovely presents. I hope you enjoy these tiny houses as much as I do!<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This moss fairy house is a cosy and safe home </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to all the tiny magical creatures of the moss lands.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFn1dbazG4hOTtBvXi20cMuqCs2tYfhivnogmY9bFmwLZpvx2oQoltkErkcgrIwa8y0Gh5KMX3TDIKABodPzn_ZbBmpxLeXRA3OKDQrf3tpvQ1YYVJiifjlX31wQ831B0VkMwigOtmag/s640/2013-05-225.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is simply made of a toiletpaper roll base covered with bark and moss. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can find the photo-tutorial for the base <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/05/fairy-houses-cork-fairy-house-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once your fairy house is ready, glue it on a slice of birch<br />
to keep the toiletpaper roll dry when you water the moss.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9N5YJ3N_r5dXwph8m93gzBeN48eBzt8yHHJnbaJRzEWvhgT6l82KT2HHTnVAJ4STJDchMLUD_jHWdCwBIS43MpDJ7vlQGI4eHOv9CO2-h8w9oYpERMw35F-xdJSgf-BqPbKogNYIaCA/s640/2013-05-222.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
By adding and changing small decorations like e.g. <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/04/tabletop-fairy-garden.html" target="_blank">planters from snail shells</a>, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
birch branch step stones and tiny ladders,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
you can make the moss house an even more enjoyable place to be!<br />
(and to look at from your couch of course! :)</div>

<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3DReW0YsdvApoYPI2BVHJU2-7-XisSB5fC8qQm5poe2RL_6HTwhEI0pa3ctMiXNnswsOf6lPbjIVwgN5KOMd4-MQLX-8EIlpPHIT3qZlBEf0cGfqFVHhG0gzCxW6SPqdaLNRlZdOwbg/s640/Collages86.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Inspired by the lovely comment of Enchanted Schoolroom I created this elf tree house. It is made of a tree branch, moss, 4 terracotta water platters in different sizes and half a flower pot (I used a broke one and chipped the sides of with a hammer). With a hot glue gun I attached the branch to the platters and decorated it later with moss, furniture and a stairs out of birch branches. On top of the elf house there is a <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/04/tabletop-fairy-garden.html" target="_blank">roof terrace with a garden</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb6KA9_eqMoidOl6LqBg0YDOf303IkfXIzmoakWr_a8cPtkUXaT-fPN1PoPsNMSeIJzOb2QNXStTo3vDbpPtx8HeaLnSgWykIMnl0WV_Eqs_cqXXHfNd0Y3jubcfDfn0W7KqBuKPsqlg/s640/Collages87.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A lovely elf staircase is easy to make. Use birch slices and glue them together with a hot glue gun. Start gluing from the point where you want the stairs to end, work in reverse from top to bottom for a natural curved tree stairs.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the tree house I cut the branch in two pieces, </div>

The large piece I cut from the bottom right and I attached it to the largest platter using a hot glue gun. I made sure it was stabile before attaching the other 2 platters to the branch.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I attached the smaller piece of branch to one of the platters and glued the last platter on top. The half flower pot was glued on the other platter and finally I decorated the bottom of all the platters with moss.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
For the residents of the house; you can find the patterns and tutorial for the dolls <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/03/diy-tutorial-wee-felt-folk-with-free.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This tree house can be placed indoors or outdoors but beware with younger children because the terracotta platters can break. Instead of an elf house it also makes a lovely plantstand, nature table or a special tablepiece with flowers and candles. Enjoy!</div>

<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuNQnQ4NjNuXwsxR4ETsVX1r7J4rISYoG4C56WAEOSYYXddxxUZYS-6UKMcU2DyXvqhA9EIDYx0Zf-I98-a8H4fDjos1KtmNKfJr0FA7rziEejciE1M62CNgFknj5_PPJ1T7RO4CX7ew/s640/IMG_3167.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This week some neighborhood kids surprised me with a basket full of snail shells!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They asked me what I would make with all these shells and I told them that I would try to make another fairy house but this time a house for the <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/04/snail-fairy.html" target="_blank">Snail Fairy</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrxJq4-cPMUso97XECN2vah7WLW2nAK3FXnE0r3oNunhvfWdA2wDbcGOwH0ZoWBzBo_oXEO5C2UjZ_WIphStW5Aka7HaAFjm03V87msBVxgLjBtgzn4pgVliu97cXbRjZVvIAqp4AO4Q/s640/2013-05-032.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This fairy house is built exactly the same way as the cork fairy house but this time I used snail shells instead of cork slices. Finally I painted the shells with a non toxic coating to enhance the colours but you can also use olive oil. Don't oil them in advance otherwise the shells won't stick with the glue.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The fairy houses are very light and easy to attach to any surface, this time I used dried bark.
I'm in love with the soft tones and spiral forms of these snail shells, each one is unique...
just perfect for a fairy house!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Have a magical day!<br />

Trees are almost instantly creating a magical playground for kids, because these green shelters are harboring and attracting all kinds of birds and insects. The biodiversity increases instantly the moment you plant a native tree! These days I see a lot of trees being cut down to make room for artificial playground for children. But isn't a tree the ultimate playground? My son plays in the shadow of the trees</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">

Birds are the crown jewels in our garden. They brighten our day and every time a new species turns up I feel blessed. When you provide shelter, add water bowls and bird feeders and don't clean up your garden too well you probably will be treated to lots of birds.</div>

Mud turned out to be the best idea of all. My dahlia corner did not make it through the winter and a few days ago I noticed my son playing in the bare sand. I decided to leave it this way and
surrounded the play area with trunks and stones.<br />
He spends his days now barefoot, digging and making mud and I am such <br />
a happy mamma!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Our <a href="http://rhythmofthehome.com/2010/05/mud-pie-kitchen/" target="_blank">mud pie kitchen</a> next to our sandpit is made of an old kitchen trolley and a zinc tub. I can really recommend creating one, it is such a wonderful addition to natural play!</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
These days our son loves to create his famous 'garden soup', 'leaf pancakes' and his all time favorite 'the cork stew'. My suggestion of making lots of mud in the large zinc tub was rejected; "No Mamma that is my dishpan!" (Must be his Virgo ascendant I guess!)</div>

From time to time I can surprise him with potato skins, avocado seeds, egg cartons and paper bags.<br />
And occasionally there are <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/02/10-min-diy-cork-boats.html" target="_blank">gnome cork boats</a> sailing around in his dishpan. He really enjoys this natural play and I just love to see how he strolls through the garden all day long looking for ingredients for his stews.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In his mud pie kitchen my stainless steel kitchen equipment is prefered above plastic toys because of his need for imitation and realistic sound play. The results are empty kitchen cupboards but a great well-stocked playspace! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I'm off to try a bowl of homemade cork stew. </div>

<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT4wpKzSGK-zz0FebmancfIijVKwDNmY43LF2WpDwwSYiOmkTBbueHurqqQUmaH7gzDnhTHlRKSSoe4z9T_Ubrg8IOmoxcv_siULd2Z2Rl7V0oXw_zxc2TMuO6Vm74kFbQbjj9hBxNj1w/s640/IMG_2723.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our latest fairy house is made of a toiletpaper roll, sturdy paper and cork!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm very happy with the result because it is made of recycled materials, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
very light and easy to make even with children.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When you are working with children I recommend preparing the paper houses and corkslices in advance so the children can do the painting and decorating.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is my tutorial for you;</div>
<img align="right" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-_hgA4EEYrGBGhfbhv2dnlxGSUcSnE7bs2hP9Q-jK7YUbQ-CpJQhiKGiw4BZM2E7iRM9CbBiMSxd6R2SZXJB240ZM_foPIkLKV965R41GltadpvvXE9wU2VJCtK344eZ9MYnzePt4plE/s320/IMG_1787-001.JPG" style="text-align: right;" width="293" /><span style="text-align: right;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="text-align: right;">Required Materials; </span><br />
<span style="text-align: right;"> </span> <br />
- Toiletpaper roll<br />
- Sturdy paper<br />
- Glue and optional a hot glue gun <br />
- Waterpaint (earth tones)<br />
- Scissors and pen<br />
- Small plate size app. 20 cm<br />
- Corks<br />
- Sharp knife or small handsaw<br />
- Decoration like moss, birch bark,<br />
tiny branches and snailhouses<br />
- Optional; materials for a <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/03/flower-and-nest-fairies.html" target="_blank">fairy</a><br />
(felt, pipe cleaners, wooden beads)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSXE4UIvHNpOy4RCIK7D9T8xI42vUPY2RMaKithqwJAt5I1awGB6bcpdQUh_h7LlVydBy6olYAWgDm_Kf0GI8Ema3ElK0bVR7nXg_f5QUL3Pc1ao2OEqsVkD7QeeuWd7JgFxZQvRovmhg/s640/2013-04-227.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
1 - Cover the toiletpaper roll with the sturdy paper.<br />
2 - Fold the paper at the ends inside the roll.<br />
3 - Create a circle on a sheet of the paper using the plate as a template.<br />
Cut it out with scissors and make a cut in the circle all the way to the center.<br />
4 - Create a cone by overlapping the ends of the cut and secure them with glue.<br />
5 - Glue the cone into the top of the paper roll.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
These cute little paper houses can also be used for all kinds of different crafts,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
like covering them with fabric or hanging them by threads.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf-P-tgVxRIz7O8WaQ1pDHXS7_TCfRUfByu1zcmZUyDKi-Jw1a6j08_kXfFqKPiV8-zRgKkG-kr5DiOzN_BF0CC79Y5GeV0IfbSSvGWgm5vaSLbEozZRaKyGzW5Hd9Ffll2P7ydc6_dOg/s640/2013-04-228.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
6 - Use a knife or a small handsaw to cut off slices of cork. At this point I started glueing the slices of cork onto the roof of the house, but later I realized that it is better to paint the house first. Let it dry completely and then start adding the corks.<br />
7 - Start at the top of the roof with half slices and work your way down using whole slices.<br />
8 - Now you can fill the cracks between the cork slices with dried moss.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLW60i84Moj2NtcjquTTSD9o3g993iBXCLX1RfZASOTcNR1sA0BJQ2bYEN_s2deSZ2mm67lP6CfONtMX5GUKX4Kp40511uoM7izUm2NS93zS11xULc_vs8qL_UBeZwcoZsf5O-mzbmGSU/s640/2013-05-031.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
9 - Add some glue with a glue brush and press a bit of dried moss into the cracks using a small stick or the end of a teaspoon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10 - For the window you can prick a hole in the paper roll and cut out a square with your scissors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11 - Cover the window frames with bark and paint the inside of the rol in a warm fairy color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally you can create a chimney from a branch, bark and a snail shell.</div>

12 - Optional; create a tiny fairy using <a href="http://daily-colours.blogspot.nl/2013/03/flower-and-nest-fairies.html" target="_blank">this pattern</a> or use another figurine to look out of the window. (I have painted the felt of this fairy afterwards with watercolor paint and a brush)</div>

And there it is a new sweet fairy house! You can hang it or place it on a fairy 'tree' like I did. I used a thick birch branch of app. 25 cm long and 5 slices of birch and 5 corks to create this 'tree'. Using a hot glue gun I attached the slices of birch around the branch using the corks as crutches. Then I glued the branch onto a terracotta plate and decorated it with moss and birch.</div>

In the evening when a small beeswax candle is burning in front of the fairy house it is simply magical!</div>
